My passion for cooking, especially natural and healthy cooking, has always driven me to explore different types of cookware for various cooking methods.
A few months ago, I discovered a small artisanal production of soapstone cookware that truly captivated me. The brand is called Lavéc, founded by Nicola and Arianna in Valmalenco, a valley in the province of Sondrio. Lavéc takes its name from the historic stone pots traditionally used in Valmalenco, which Nicola has brought back to life thanks to his passion, passed down through five generations.
The craft of turning each individual pot or stone cooking plate is an art that Nicola and Arianna have chosen to preserve.
They offer a line of cookware and stone plates that not only allow you to cook delicious dishes in a healthy way, but they also make stunning pieces to bring to the table.
Cooking with soapstone provides a uniform yet gentle heat, ensuring an even temperature across the surface without the food sticking or losing its natural flavor. Plus, very little fat is needed.
Since soapstone is a completely natural material, it doesn't release any flavors or chemicals into the food, making cooking healthier and simpler for everyone.
When I discovered Lavéc, I couldn’t resist and ordered one pot as a Christmas gift for my mom and another for myself. Now, when I prepare a traditional dish, I can do so using a traditional method with Lavéc.
Lavéc even ships to the United States! Arianna is incredibly organized and handled the shipment flawlessly. Since each piece is handmade in small batches, production takes a few weeks.
When my pot finally arrived, I was thrilled. It was perfectly packaged with all recycled materials: super durable corrugated cardboard, and to minimize environmental impact, the pot’s casing was made from fabric scraps provided by a textile company in Valtellina (the fabrics themselves are beautiful!).
The Lavéc is stunning—it brings back memories of my grandmother’s pots on the stove and the intoxicating aromas in the kitchen. Before using it, you only need to follow a couple of easy preparation steps, and then it’s ready to go!
I can’t wait to cook a traditional dish from my homeland using the Lavéc!
I encourage you to visit Nicola and Arianna’s website to learn more about their business and the cultural traditions of Valmalenco, where it all began.
And if you want my advice… don’t wait, order your Lavéc today!
