I can finally reveal why I’ve been spending the past few months working on fixing up our little barn.
My husband and I have been planning for months to welcome two small Alpine goats into our little farm!
Their stable is now welcoming, bright, airy and ready to welcome them.
Even outside, by recovering wooden pallets, we built an area for playing and resting in the shade.
We first visited their home, Bell Hill Farm in Hollister, back in January.
The farm is in a stunning location, and the owner has a deep love for all the animals.
Finally, two weeks ago, we went back to meet them and bring them home with us.
I was so excited, I could hardly contain myself!
As soon as they got into the car, they cuddled up next to me, and they were calm throughout the whole drive.
When we arrived home, they started exploring their new little house, playing and jumping all around. They’re absolutely adorable! We’ve named them Malva and Milla.
These first few weeks have been both challenging and wonderful. The barn needs to be kept meticulously clean, and morning and afternoon, they take their bottle of milk—probably the best part of the day! After feeding, they love to play or cuddle up on my lap.
As I’ve shared before, my passion for animals comes from my family, who have always kept farm animals. My grandfather raised cows for milk, butter, and cheese production, and I grew up surrounded by animals from a very young age.
One of my fondest memories is when a family friend invited me and a friend to bottle-feed some baby goats. It was such an exciting experience! I can hardly believe that now we have two goats of our own. I’m so looking forward to seeing them grow and sharing our days on the farm with them.
When they’re older, they’ll be able to have their own kids and eventually produce delicious milk. We’ll use it for our small, personal production of milk and cheeses—another small step forward for our farm!
